Chef Don Lim ran two things in Toa Payoh North between about 2014 and 2021.
- A Don Signature Crab coffee-shop stall at Blk 206 Toa Payoh North, selling crab bee hoon, which opened around 2014 to 2015. The kitchen’s own account says 2014, and bloggers date it to March 2015, so we write “about 2014 to 2015”.
- Don’s Pie & Cake at Toa Payoh North Food Centre II (1008A), selling his chicken pies, from late 2019 until he opened at Tyrwhitt Road in 2021.
Both have closed. We do not say more about the reasons, because we do not have a source for them and will not guess. Our story puts them in the timeline.
Why old listings still show Toa Payoh
Several places still show the old stall.
- SethLui’s list of 15 crab bee hoon places (first published 24 March 2016, with a modified date of 15 September 2026) still lists “Don Signature Crab” at “Block 206 Toa Payoh North, #01-1197” for “$20”. That entry describes the 2016 stall, not today.
- A listing for 1008A Toa Payoh North Food Centre II, with opening hours and a phone number, appeared in a search for crab bee hoon in Toa Payoh on 8 October 2026. It is a historic listing.
- Tripadvisor and some directories attach the kitchen to Toa Payoh West or to Lavender, which are also stale.
- Eatbook’s 2017 review (updated 9 February 2022) has a title that mentions Tyrwhitt Road but describes the Toa Payoh hawker-centre stall at $25.
Do not go to Toa Payoh expecting crab. We would rather you reach a bowl than a closed shutter.
